El Molí Nou de Calabuig was built in the late nineteenth century by the owner of a shipping company from Arenys de Mar, who did business in America.

That is why the house has a unique "indiano" style, with an interior patio and two centuries-old palm trees that died a few years ago from the weevil. There are also two naval cannons set in the entrance. Originally it was a very austere building, some kind of fortress, with no openings to the outside.  The owner opened doors and windows later and added new facilities over the years.

In 1896 a canal was built from Bàscara, driving the water of the Fluvià river, which used to run a hydroelectric power station next to El Molí Nou, connected to the first Empordà power grid.

In the 1920s, an entrepreneur from Figueres acquired the estate to give it new uses. Taking advantage of the power from the plant, she built a flour mill in the northern part of the main building. El Moli Nou, therefore, became a trendy place where the nearby farmers used to bring their cereals and milled them.

In1987, the building was adapted to become a holiday camp house and a school farm.

Since then, it has hosted hundreds of school groups, youth or adult groups that carry out activities, camps, gatherings, and all types of celebrations.
